 That’s design.

And when things feel messy… communication breaks down… the experience feels off?
That’s design too.

Systems don’t drift into excellence.
They produce what they’re built to produce.

So the real question isn’t: What went wrong?
It’s: What did we build that’s creating this?

The move isn’t to react.
The move is to redesign.

This is a daily spark from Fire Talk. After being on a campus this week, a very organized professional campus, watching how everything operated, I kept coming back to one thought. Nothing's off. This is what they built. We like to think when things fill off, something went wrong. But most of the time, nothing went wrong. The system is just doing exactly what it was designed to do. Because when I was watching everything in this organization this week, the flow, the coordination, the experience, different teams, people who didn't even know each other. And everything still worked smoothly, intentionally, and aligned. That doesn't happen by accident. It happens by design. And here's the flip side. When things feel messy, when communication breaks down, when the experience isn't tight, that's really not bad luck. That is design too. Because systems don't drift into excellence, they produce exactly what they're built to produce. So if it feels off, it's really not random. It's revealing. So here's the check. What am I seeing right now that I've been calling a problem? That is actually a product of the system. Not the people, not the moment, the system. Because the move isn't to react to what's happening, the move is to redesign what's producing it. Tighten the system, clarify the roles, align the experience. Because when you build it right, you really don't have to fix it later. So the next time something feels off, pause and ask Did this break or was this built? Because most of the time, nothing's off. This is what was built. So if the fire is lit, share the grit.
