This is a daily spark from Fire Talk. As we move through the final stretch of the school year, leadership isn't always comfortable. We talk a lot about relationships, connections, and supporting people, and all of that matters. But what we don't talk about enough is this. At some point, leadership stops feeling good. Because if you're leading right now, right now in this moment, you feel it. Hard conversation, holding people accountable, managing change, watching people struggle with decisions that have already been made, and the tension is real because you care a lot about people. You want to support them and you want to be understanding. You really do. But the work still has to get done. Standards still matter, expectations matter, and the system still has to perform. And here's where most leaders get stuck. They try to protect people from discomfort instead of leading through it. But when you avoid the hard decisions, you don't remove discomfort. You delay it and spread it to everyone else. So here's the check. Am I making decisions based upon what feels good or based upon what the work requires? Am I holding the line even when it's uncomfortable? Because real leadership isn't about keeping people comfortable, it's about making sure the work works. It's about clarity, it's about consistency, it's about doing what's necessary even when it's not easy. So when things feel comfortable, don't run from it. That's the work. Because leadership isn't supposed to feel comfortable. So if the fire is lit, share the grit.
